SETTLING

We understand that deciding on an appropriate childcare establishment for your child is an important decision. we also understand that Parents/Carers maybe anxious about starting nursery and we are aware that this maybe the first time you have left your child. We want all families to feel confident in the nursery before leaving your child and have in place 2 packages for settling, however as each child is individual we are happy to offer flexibility to met you and your child's needs.

We work closely with parents/carers and we believe that continuity of care is of the utmost importance. You will soon know the staff by name but to assist you in the early weeks you will see the staff pictures and names displayed in the hall. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any concerns or questions we are here to help.

ARRIVAL AND COLLECTION TIMES, Sunflowers sessions:

You are welcome to arrive after the session starts but not before, please ensure that pick up times are adhered to. If on occasion you require extra hours or sessions we may be able to arrange this, so please ask and we will do our best to accommodate.
If anyone other than your stated person/s is to collect your child we must be told in advance, the nursery operates a password system and they must have your password, unfortunately we will not be able to release your child without it. This is for your child's safety and we kindly ask for your understanding in this matter.

WHAT TO WEAR

We feel old clothes are more appropriate for your child to wear to the nursery as it is impossible for us, however hard we try, to always avoid paint, mud etc. Please provide a bag of spare clothes for such times. Please name your clothing items.

NAPPIES AND TOILET TRAINING

Nappy Changing facilities are available at the nursery; we will dispose of any nappy waste hygienically. You will be required to provide an adequate supply of Nappies and Wipes, also if you wish cream to be applied you may bring your own, however we do provide sudocrem if required.  
Please let us know when you are preparing your child for potty training, we will be more than happy to support you and your child in this very important next step. Please ensure your child wears clothes that can be adjusted and undone easily this will help your child develop self-help skills and promote confidence in meeting their own needs.

REST AND SLEEPING 

Rest areas are provided, with options for how you may wish your child to sleep. The nursery provides Cots, Pods and Beds. Each child will have its own bedding provided by the nursery.
Children will be checked at 10 minute intervals whilst sleeping, with these checks being recorded. You are welcome to bring any comfort Toys/Blankets for sleep times.


MEDICINES

Medicines may be administered as long as they have been prescribed by a doctor or a medical professional. A medication form will need to be completed for each occasion; we are happy to support you in the management of ongoing medical issues and can arrange an opportunity to discuss your child's needs. Your child will not be able to stay at the nursery if they are unwell.

Notice board

Whenever possible please take time to read items placed on our notice boards, situated in the hall. We will display important dates, reminders, Illness notifications, and Menus amongst other items of interest.


MEALS AND NUTRICIAN

The nursery provides high quality, home cooked foods daily and the nursery has been a part of the Healthy Eating Initiative since 2010. we offer a wide range of foods, which are well balanced and nutritional. We are happy to provide food/drink for specific dietary needs.
We understand that children under the age of 2 have varying food preparation requirements and are happy to ensure your child's needs are met and progressed as and when agreed. 

Staff

The staff at Sunflowers are qualified, and experienced, all staff are First Aid Trained, and hold enhanced DBS checks; the nursery team is committed to ongoing professional training and up hold the highest possible professional standards at all times.

The staffing ratios are:
Under the age of two is 3:1
2-3 yrs 4:1
3-5yrs 8:1

At no time will the ratios be compromised. At no time is lone working permitted. Please see the our staff page.

KEY PERSONS

It's very important that we develop a partnership in caring for your child's needs, you will be allocated a Key person who will support you and your child during settling, record your child's development, create next steps for progress and support you and your family with any needs or concerns.

STUDENTS

The nursery accepts childcare students and school work experience students. This gives the students an opportunity to learn about nursery life and to gain knowledge of child development. Students are not left alone with children at any time and are closely supervised by our staff team; Students are required to wear a student badge and should be easily identifiable.

PARENT/CARER INVOLVEMENT

You are encouraged to be involved in many ways at Sunflowers. You will receive home project slips to keep you informed of what we are learning about, we welcome contributions and ideas from parents/carers. As you are the most important person/people in your child's life you are invaluable to us as carers and we hope to form an effective partnership with yourselves to provide the best possible care for your child.

HOME TO NURSERY BOOKS

In the Baby and Toddler room your child will receive a Home to Nursery book when starting; in this book the staff will record information about your child's day in relation to-
  • Food/drink intake-how much your child has eaten. We will record any major likes or dislikes to certain foods your child has shown during the day. We will note any bottles your child may have had and any significant information about their intake of fluids.
  • Sleeping-your child's sleep pattern will be recorded through-out your session. 
  • Nappy changes and changes of clothes-All Nappy changes will be recorded including the times of these changes; changes of clothes will also be noted along with the reason for the change.
  • Your child's activities for the day will be recorded in the room, we understand that many would like this information within the home to nursery book but we must ensure staff are not away from the children writing for long periods.

FUNDING

The nursery is able to accept children in receipt of funding including:

  • 2 yr old Funding (on entitlement)
  • Grant Funding (all children from the term after 3)
